“My plastic window has a network of what looks like CRACKS! What has caused this and will your Plastic Window Polish help reduce them?”
Elliot

Hi Elliot,

Thank you for the enquiry!

Crazing is a network of lines or cracks in the glazed surface. It happens when a glaze is under tension, possibly from being washed with hot water, or perhaps a bleaching product.

All Renovo products are water-based, and therefore impossible to penetrate the plastic surface and cure the results shown in the image. Therefore, we can only surmise that the window has previously been exposed to hot water or a bleaching product that has caused the crazing.

Unfortunately, this is not a reversible process, and we can only suggest you may need to replace the plastic window.

I hope you found this information helpful, and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions.

“I have a nearly new black mohair roof on a 1998 VW golf cabriolet. The original roof to the car would have been blue. Will your Soft Top Reviver RE-COLOUR from black to a navy blue?”

Liza

Hello Liza,

Thank you for the enquiry!

It is possible to change the colour of your soft top from blue to black using Renovo Soft Top Reviver.  However, the reverse is much more tricky, as it is easier to change from a lighter colour to a darker colour.

I am not 100% confident that you will be able to successfully complete this colour changing process, and would strongly recommend that if you do wish to attempt it, then you should use the Reviver on a small inconspicuous area of the top first!

The Soft Top Reviver was developed to bring back the original colour, not change the colour and consequently there are risks involved with this process. It is not reversible and can take more than the two recommended coats but not more than three.

It is imperative that the top is cleaned thoroughly, ensuring that any previously applied proofing product is removed, before applying the Soft Top Reviver. Renovo Fabric Soft Top Cleaner will remove most proofers if the severely soiled cleaning instructions are followed. If you are aware that another proprietary branded proofer has been applied it is best to contact their customer service department to ascertain how you should remove their proofer.

A number of our customers have changed the colour of their fabric soft tops using this method and the feedback has always been positive, but I would strongly advise that I do not feel your attempt will leave you with the results you desire!

I hope this information has been helpful, don’t forget, all of our products are available for purchase via our website:

“I have bought your colour reviver in dark red. I have used your cleaner first on my soft top, and it looked a lot cleaner. My problem is that the red is TOO dark! Is there a lighter shade? If not how do I remove it?”
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

Thank you for your enquiry!

I am sorry to hear you are not happy with the shade of the red, – this is why it states on the bottle to “test on an inconspicuous area first”, that way you can see whether the shade is right for you. We only manufacture 1 shade of each colour, and the pantone details can all be found on the website!

The Reviver will fade over time as long as you do not proof your soft top, as this will only slow the process. However, if you wish to remove the Reviver use the Renovo Fabric Soft Top Cleaner following these instructions:

Mist spray the top and then paint on the Fabric Soft Top Cleaner leave the solution to dry for approximately one hour, this is the optimum time for the active ingredients to work. Using hand hot water the surface should then be scrubbed with a bristle brush being careful around stitched areas and windows. It is essential to use hand hot water!  Finish by rinsing off with water. Repeat the whole process as necessary.

I hope this information was helpful to you, feel free to contact me if you have any further questions!

“I intend to use Renovo fabric soft top cleaner on my convertible, as recommended by HONEST JOHN! Do I need to proof the soft top afterwards?”
Miguel

Hi Miguel,

Thank you for the enquiry!

Ah, good old Honest John! He is always very positive about Renovo!

Anyway, to answer your question – YES!

It is very important to use the Ultra Proofer on your soft top after giving it a good clean! It is important to remember that when you are cleaning your soft top with the Fabric Soft Top Cleaner, you are also removing any previously applied proofer that may have been added, so you will need to put on another coat or two of the Ultra Proofer to protect your soft top from mould and mildew. Ultra Proofer also restores the water proof barrier and contains a UV inhibitor to prevent the colour from fading in the sun.

Basically, there is no point cleaning it if you aren’t going to protect your results afterwards!

Another point to remember is that once you have cleaned your soft top, and you are satisfied, but would like to add some Reviver before adding the Ultra Proofer, – if there is any proofing agent still present on your soft top, then the Reviver will not be able to absorb into the fibres, as it is a water based product, and thus will be repelled. This means you need to test that all of the proofing agent has been removed, which can be done by following this simple test:

“Sprinkle little drops of water onto your soft top from a watering can with a rose attachment. As the droplets land on your soft top, pay attention to your top and see if the water begins to bead, or absorbs into the fabric. If it beads, you need to clean the top again, as the proofing agent is still present. If not, you are ready to continue!”

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me!

“My VINYL soft top appears to be deteriorating! Do you know why this may have happened?”
Toby

Hi Toby!

Sorry to hear that your vinyl soft top is deteriorating! Hopefully I can shed some light on why this may have happened!

In my experience, after a period of about 2 years, lower quality vinyl/PVC that has been inappropriately cleaned will begin to breakdown/deteriorate and the plasticiser used during the manufacturing process will begin to leach out. This chemical reaction within the vinyl/PVC will cause the plasticiser to migrate to the surface and cause stickiness.

The stickiness is classically more apparent during warmer periods of the day and will diminish or disappear totally during colder periods or overnight. This is similar to tarmac roads, they are often sticky on warm days but will return to their usual constituency when the ambient temperature is cooler.

If you have not owned your car from new, then you presumably don’t know what has been previously used to clean the soft top prior to your ownership commencing. Car shampoo is not suitable for washing a vinyl soft top, neither are stronger proprietary products such as Cif, the use of these chemicals will accelerate the deterioration of the vinyl.

When cleaning and protecting any vinyl soft top, remember to use products manufactured for the job, such as our Vinyl Soft Top Cleaner and Vinyl Ultra Proofer.

I hope you found this information helpful, don’t forget our Vinyl Soft Top Cleaner and Vinyl Ultra Proofer are both available for purchase via our website: www.renovointernational.com

“I have been cleaning and treating my soft top for many years with a variety of different brands, and subsequently, my soft top has become very STIFF! Do you have any idea how I can resolve this issue?”
Duncan

Hello Duncan,

Interesting question! Stiffness is a common issue fabric soft top owners can have with their top, but it will generally ease over time and in warmer weather.

Use the jelly sparingly, rubbing it into the fabric with your fingertips. Yes, we know this may sound amusing, but try it for yourself on a small inconspicuous area of the soft top first before treating the whole cover, – it really works!

I hope this information was helpful to you, and please feel free to contact me! Don’t forget that all of Renovo’s products are available for purchase via our website, unfortunately, we do not currently stock KY Jelly!

“I have cream LEATHER seats in my BMW that look grey and dirty, can you recommend a product that will make them look fresh and cream again?”
Cyril

Hi Cyril,

Thank you for the enquiry! As luck would have it, just last week a customer sent in some BRILLIANT before and after pictures!Leather Ultra Proofer  I even use it to clean my shoes!

The best product to use for cleaning leather seats, or any other kind of leather is, Renovo’s

Anyway, Renovo’s Leather Ultra Proofer not only cleans and waterproofs your leather upholstery, it also protects it with a UV inhibitor and advanced anti-bacterial guard, which is effective against super bugs, such as E. Coli.

Applying small amounts of the product at a time is the most effective way to use the product, and then use your lint free cloth to make small circular motions to work the product into the fibres.

As you can see by these pictures, the Leather Ultra Proofer also gives cream leather seats a glow, and really brings out the pure cream colouring! This customer was thrilled with his results!

Another benefit that we noticed was that the polished shine appears to reduce the visible cracks in the leather, which was a great surprise, considering there are NO colouring ingredients in the product, (allowing it to be suitable to all types of leather). If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us!

“My Mazda RX7 has a VINYL soft top. Can I use the Soft Top Reviver on it?”
Francesco

Hello Francesco!

First of all, thank you for asking for advice, BEFORE applying the Soft Top Reviver to your vinyl top! You would be amazed how many people go ahead without asking!

Anyway, unfortunately, the Soft Top Reviver cannot be used on vinyl soft tops, it is suitable for canvas, double-duck and mohair soft tops only. The product will simply not be able to absorb into the soft top, and thus rest on the top with a patchy/messy appearance.

The best way look after your vinyl soft top you can use Renovo Vinyl Soft Top Cleaner on a regular basis, and then protect with Renovo Vinyl Ultra Proofer every three to six months for the best weather shield.

Renovo Vinyl Ultra Proofer not only contains mould and mildew inhibitors in its formulation it also has a UV inhibitor to help preserve the colour of your vinyl soft top.

I hope you found this information helpful, and don’t forget, all of our products are available for purchase via our website:
