Thank you for the enquiry!
Hmm, it is possible to change the colour of your soft top from lighter colours to darker colours, such as tan to black, using the Soft Top Reviver. However, it is much more complicated and risky to change from black to a lighter red. It will most likely create a muddy brown result!
It is also important to note that the Soft Top Reviver was developed to bring back the original colour, not change the colour, so consequently there are risks involved with this process. It is not reversible and can take more than the recommended two coats, but no more than three!
It is imperative that the top is thoroughly cleaned first, ensuring that any previously applied proofing product is removed, before applying the Soft Top Reviver. Our Fabric Soft Top Cleaner will remove most known proofers, as long as the severely soiled instructions are followed on the bottle. If you are aware of the proprietary branded proofer that has been applied, it is best to contact their customer service department to ascertain how you should remove their proofer.
I strongly recommend that if you are thinking of attempting this colour change, that you test the results for yourself by applying the Soft Top Reviver to a small inconspicuous area of the top first, before applying to the whole soft top.
A number of our customers have changed the colour of their soft top using our Soft Top Reviver with great success, however, the change from black to a lighter red is far more risky.
